The 26-year-old woman whose hacked up remains were found strewn about a Brooklyn park died from strangulation, investigators have determined.
Brandy Odom’s killer — who remains on the loose almost three months after the young woman’s body parts were found scattered around Canarsie Park in Canarsie the morning of April 9 — strangled her before her body was dismembered, the city medical examiner determined after an autopsy and studies on her remains.
Prior to the medical examiner’s determination, it was not known whether Odom was the victim of a homicide or if she died some other way before her body was dismembered and improperly disposed of in the park.
Odom’s head and torso were discovered by a dog walker. Cops later recovered her severed limbs in the park following an exhaustive search of the green space. A serrated blade, described as a small saw, was also found in a garbage can inside the park, cops said.
Detectives suspect Odom, who was living with a couple on 148th Road near 253rd St. in Rosedale, was killed about 24 hours before her killer dismembered her and dumped her remains in the wooded park, according to sources.
Investigators zeroed in on a man, believed to be Odom's roommate, after he made incriminating statements in the weeks after her murder, sources said.
The NYPD recovered video evidence that shows the suspect backing up his car into his driveway and putting large plastic bags — believed to be holding Odom's dismembered remains — into the trunk, according to sources.
He was taken into custody and interviewed by investigators but has not been charged.
