President Trump complained Wednesday about “vicious” media reports regarding the First Lady’s recent absence.
Trump, without providing any examples, said the press has been ‘‘so unfair, and vicious” in its coverage of his wife's recent month-long dodging of the spotlight.
Melania Trump is slated on Wednesday to attend her first public appearance outside the White House in nearly a month after undergoing surgery for a kidney condition.
The media “reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. (and me) for N.Y. or Virginia, to abuse,” the President tweeted.
He adds: “All Fake, she is doing really well!”
His comments caused a stir as MSNBC host Joe Scarborough took umbrage at Trump's indignation.
"I agree that it would be ‘vicious’ and ‘unfair' to lie about a loved one having a facelift for the purpose of causing pain and embarrassment. Mr. President, can you imagine anyone would be so cruel to do such a thing?" Scarborough tweeted, referencing Trump's personal attack on his wife, Mika Brzezinski, last year.
Trump tweeted last June that Brzezinski was “bleeding badly from a face-lift” during a New Year’s Eve visit to the President’s Florida resort.

There was rampant conspiracy theory speculation about the First Lady’s withdrawal from the spotlight on social media in recent weeks. Most major news organizations reported on the rumors and cited officials in the White House who shot down the speculation.
The White House said Melania Trump will join the President for a hurricane briefing at Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington on Wednesday.
It will be Mrs. Trump’s first appearance outside the White House since May 10 when 48-year-old was spotted with her husband welcoming home three American hostages from North Korea at Joint Base Andrews.
Four days later, the First Lady was checked in to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what officials described as, "an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition."
She returned to the White House on May 19 to continue her recovery and appeared at a private White House reception for military families on Monday.
