Screwdriver-wielding man stabs wife in NYC barbershop

Jose Castillo, 66, repeatedly plunged a screwdriver into his wife in an upper Manhattan barber shop. (NBC NEW YORK)
A Washington Heights man repeatedly stabbed his wife with a screwdriver inside an upper Manhattan barber shop, in a horrifying scene caught on surveillance cameras, cops said.
Jose Castillo, 66, stormed into a barber shop on Broadway near W. 141st St. in Hudson Heights at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and descended on his 38-year-old wife as she sat on a bench inside.
He repeatedly plunged a screwdriver into her, until one of the barbers inside tried to stop him.
Video obtained by NBC 4 New York shows Castillo and the barber battling each other throughout the store.
The woman tried to escape, but Castillo chased after her, dragging her back into the store. After another struggle, she ran outside again, and he attacked her again after she's knocked to the ground.
A passerby on the sidewalk intervened, and Castillo fled. He was arrested later in the day Thursday.
The woman survived the attack.
Castillo, who's charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, remains held on $250,000 bail.
