CIA boss Mike Pompeo met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during a secret visit in early April amid negotiations for a face-to-face meeting with Trump, according to a report.
Pompeo traveled to the isolated nation during the Easter weekend, the Washington Post reported, citing sources with knowledge of the meeting.
The get-together allegedly took place about two weeks after Trump tapped the former Kansas congressman to replace ousted State Secretary Rex Tillerson.
Trump appeared to allude to Pompeo’s meeting while meeting with his Japanese counterpart at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
He replied, “yes,” when responding to a shouted question if he had been speaking directly with the rogue leader in North Korea. But the White House later clarified that other top officials — not Trump — had been speaking with Kim.

“The President said the administration has had talks at the highest levels and added that they were not with him directly,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.
She did not identify Pompeo as the top official and later declined to comment on the CIA director's travels.
Trump spent Tuesday meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at his Palm Beach resort.
During bilateral talks with Abe, Trump said the U.S. and North Korea had not yet picked a site for their unprecedented meeting.
