A vehicle tore through an unsuspecting crowd enjoying a sunny Satruday afternoon in the German City of Muenster, killing at least three and injuring two more.
The driver shot and killed himself amid the chaos, police spokesman Andreas Bode told reporters. They have yet to identify the man and his motive remains unclear.
Police said they uncovered a suspicious object in the vehicle and are still trying to determine whether or not it is dangerous.
"There are dead and injured," the North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Police confirmed on Twitter.
Mayor Markus Lewe told reporters that "all of Muenster is mourning this horrible incident. Our sympathy is with the relatives of thos who were killed. We wish the injured a quick recovery."
A spokeswoman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel offered "thoughts and prayers" to those affected by the crash.
People have been advised to leave the area "near the Kiepenkerl pub," a popular bar in the city's historic downtown where the incident occurred. It's typically popular and bustling with activity during the weekends.
Photos shared on social media show overturned chairs and broken tables flung across the scene.
The incident is reminiscent of a December 2016 vehicle attack at a Berlin Christmas market, which left 12 dead.
It wasn't immediately clear if the incident was terror-related.
