An Amtrak train hit and killed a person on the tracks Monday afternoon as it left Union Station in Washington, officials said.
The Boston-bound Acela 2172 was temporarily suspended after the collision, according to reports. The train struck a person walking on the tracks just north of the station, The Washington Post reported.
Engineers reversed the train to bring it back into the capitol. None of the 213 passengers onboard was injured, and no one was hurt among the train crew, an Amtrak spokeswoman told the paper. Train service in Maryland was disrupted as well, but was partially restored on the Penn Line.
