Nanny says devil told her to butcher two kids

The nanny on trial for murdering two kids in her care in 2012 told a shrink weeks later that the devil made her slaughter the little victims, the doctor testified Tuesday.
Karen Rosenbaum said that in a chat with 55-year-old Yoselyn Ortega, the accused killer said she was taking commands from Satan when she repeatedly stabbed and slashed little Lulu and Leo Krim, 6 and 2, and then plunged a kitchen blade into her throat on Oct. 25, 2012.
“She finally told me …that voices told her to kill people, kill herself and eventually she told me they told her to kill the children,” Rosenbaum testified about the late 2012 session at Ortega’s first-degree murder trial in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The suspect also complained that she “was starting to feel the devil was starting to overtake her (and) it was significantly worse,” prior to the gruesome killings in the children’s W. 75th St. apartment.
The evil presence was “getting stronger in the week prior” to the tragedy that claimed the lives of the Krim kids, Rosenbaum said.
“When the devil overtakes her, she has no choice in the matter,” Rosenbaum noted, remarking on her assessment.

Ortega’s defense team has brought an insanity claim — insisting the baby-sitter was too mentally ill at the time the heinous acts were committed to be held legally responsible.
But prosecutors say Ortega had a clear motive and took careful steps to plan the double homicide. They argue she has demonstrated that she could appreciate what she was doing was wrong, which is the legal threshold.
Rosenbaum’s testimony is expected to continue Thursday.
If Ortega is convicted, she faces life in prison. If she’s found not responsible, she’ll likely spend life in a psychiatric facility.
