Ex-teacher cuffed in bomb-making plot was having sex with student

The charter school bomb threat that led to the bust of a teacher stockpiling explosives in his Bronx home was called in by the underage student with whom he was having sex, a law enforcement source said Friday.
Christian Toro, 27, and twin brother, Tyler Toro, were busted in an early-morning raid at their Pelham Parkway apartment Thursday, then slapped in federal court with bomb-making charges.
Christian was also charged with distributing explosive materials to a minor — the two female students he allegedly paid $50 an hour to take apart fireworks and store the powder in containers.
One of those students is the 15-year-old with whom he had a sexual relationship, the source said.

On Dec. 4 she called in a bomb threat at Democracy Prep Harlem High School where Christian Toro was teaching.
She was arrested and her case referred to Family Court.
The call to the school doesn’t appear linked to whatever Christian was plotting, the source said.
Detectives learned during their investigation of the threat that the teen was having sex with an adult. It wasn’t until Christian Toro, presumably worried what the teen told police, resigned from Democracy Prep on Jan. 9 that his life fully unraveled.

After Tyler Toro returned to the school his brother’s laptop, the school called police because it said it was “deeply disturbed by suspicious content” — what authorities now say is a digital copy of a bomb-making book.
Police also found on Christian Tyler’s cell phone evidence of calls and texts with the teen, the source said.
The former teacher was busted Jan. 31 for having a series of sexual encounters with the teen dating back to last September.
When he and his brother were arrested Thursday for the bomb-making materials inside the apartment were 20 pounds of iron oxide, 5 pounds of aluminum powder, 5 pounds of potassium nitrate and 2 pounds of confectioners’ sugar — all of which authorities said can be used to make bombs.

It remains unclear, however, if the suspects had picked a target to strike or a date to do so.
Also found inside the apartment were notes and a diary referring to a plan dubbed “Operation Code Name Flash.”
“Under the full moon the small ones will know terror,” read a purple index card.
Its meaning is still not clear, though Christian Toro before his arrest told the FBI he had never built a bomb and that he had unintentionally downloaded the digital bomb-making book while researching the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.
